2 recommended souvenirs from Ishigaki Island for family and close friends

There are many attractive souvenirs from Ishigaki Island, such as Lloyds Ishigakijima (chocolate), Ishigakijima raayu, etc., in addition to the standard Chinsuko (Okinawa’s traditional biscuits).

One of the most recommended is

Ishigaki Salt” and “Tropical Fruit Jam” from Kabira Farm.

Both are sold at the airport, but since you are there, please visit a direct sales place.

Ishigaki Salt

The name of the store is also “Ishigaki Salt(石垣の塩)” and you can easily recognize it if you go there because the sign on the road says “salt()” in large letters.

The store is stylishly decorated with a variety of salts.

The introduction of Ishigaki salt is shown on the projector. The store clerk also explains the process of salt making carefully.

They sell a variety of salts, but I especially recommend coarse salt!

Ishigaki salt is sold at the airport, but I don’t think they had coarse salt.

The salt is made from 100% seawater from Ishigaki, and is very mild and luxurious, with not much saltiness in the mouth and a salty flavor that comes later.

This coarse salt is perfect for grilled meat and fish. It is also delicious over raw vegetables.

Kelp salt and piper salt (Okinawan spice called island pepper) were also available for tabletop use, but all are delicious.

You can also enjoy salt ice cream at the store.

The balance of saltiness and sweetness is very nice and refreshing. There are tables and chairs outside the restaurant so you can eat there.

This is the entrance to the restaurant. Tables and chairs are on the left and right side of the entrance.

In addition to buying souvenirs, visitors can tour the workshop and experience salt making.

There are lots of jars lined up outside the store with salt inside.

There is a type of Ishigaki salt called pearl salt, which is made by sun aging in this jar for 3~8 years, and this pearl salt is only sold at direct sales.

There was a flower called Red Powderpuff blooming on the property.

It seems to flower from December to April.

It has a nice Okinawan feel to it.

Another relaxation facility, Salt Spa, was located across the parking lot from the restaurant.

Tropical Fruit Jam from Kabira Farm

This is a farm that grows passion fruit and mangoes and is located on the way to Kabira Bay.

It is located on a hill, but there are signs on the road so you can’t get lost.

The store sells passion fruit drinks, jams, and oil from passion fruit seeds.

I highly recommend the passionfruit jam and the mango jam–just the right size for souvenirs! And outstandingly delicious!

The jam seems to be made only with plenty of fruit and granulated sugar, so it is not too sweet, and you can enjoy the flavors of the passion fruit and mango ingredients.

It is quite tasty eaten as is.

Great on bread or in yogurt!

This jam is sold at the airport, but if you visit Kabira Farm, you can taste it and drink passion fruit juice.

The mango juice looks good too.

Passion fruit juice is also available in the restaurant.

Passion fruit juice is rare to drink, so it is very precious.

This juice is also provided to hotels.

It is very refreshing and tasty with a sour taste, so please try it at the restaurant when you go there.

I forget the price, but it is a few hundred yen and reasonable.

The restaurant is decorated with pictures painted by the owner. The passion fruit love is amazing.

The terrace offers a view of Kabira Bay.

There is also a botanical garden on the grounds of Kabira Farm, where visitors can view a variety of flowers.

The location cannot be written here, so please ask the clerk when you visit the store. An introduction board to the botanical garden is also placed inside the store.

Finally.

I have been to Ishigaki Island twice so far and each time I buy salt and jam to take back home, which are well received by my family and relatives.

Chinsuko may be the standard souvenir to give away to a large number of people, but the Ishigaki salt, passion fruit, and mango jam introduced here will surely be appreciated as gifts to close friends and family.

Please try these souvenirs when you visit Ishigaki Island.

Thank you for reading to the end.
